Rockpool Series: Precious as Gold is a collection of oil paintings, This was a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Aia Leu at the Carnegie Arts Centre in Kenmare in 2012. This series of paintings explore the imagery of prehistoric jewels, precious gems, La Tene jewellery and bronze age rock patterns all connected to imaginary rockpools. Aia’s art has been reproduced in fine detail as a beautiful pack of ten postcards on 300g matt card.
Aia Leu is a fine art painter who works in oil and watercolour. She lives and paints in her studio in the mountains near Kenmare in Ireland where she moved to in 1989. A self-taught third generation artist, she learned the foundations of art from her parents and studied figure sketching as a teenager in Vevey, Switzerland. Her paternal grandmother is the Swiss artist Eva Aeppli.
Aia’s work draws directly from her multicultural and bohemian upbringing, which saw her raised ‘on the road’, as her parents followed their dream of a life of ‘art and freedom’. Particularly influenced by both her years spent as a child in India, and the richness of the Irish landscape, her paintings reflect beautifully the diversity of her inspiration.
