A Swiss artist Aia Leu is a fine art painter who works mainly in oils and also has a passion for painting small watercolours of doors from around the world. A self-taught artist, learning from her parents she also studied art in Vevey in the 1980’s. She lives in Kenmare, Ireland since 1989.
Aia Leu was born in 1971 “on the road” in an old finca on the tiny Island of Formentera (Baleares). Her parents were artists from the 60’s and she is their third child of four, Filip, Ama, Aia and Ajja. Her father Felix Leu (1945-2002) met artist Loretta (Buscaglia) Leu at a Jean Tinguely exhibition in New York,1965. Felix was born in Basel, Switzerland, his mother Eva Aeppli and her husband Jean Tinguely were part of the avant-garde art movement in Paris in the 50’s and 60‘s, and friends with artists such as Daniel Spoerri, Yves Klein and Niki de Saint-Phalle.
In 2012 Aia compiled the book “The Art of the Leu Family” – which is a chronological journey through all of the family’s art. 2017 Aia is currently working on the artwork for Berber Tattooing with Loretta Leu, and also illustrating ‘The Oracle of Change‘ a 78 oracle deck inspired by ‘Thoth Journey’ a book by JoannaKate Grant.
